Spring in Autumn

It could be a Spring day, with the

flowers on their third or

fourth burst, blossom on the

hawthorn that thinks its

missed Winter, the tic-tic of

robins protecting their

second brood: but the days

shorten not lengthen, and I

hope the chicks grow fast and aren’t,

as we so often are,

caught out by Winter.

Nice! I especially liked the line ‘but the days shorten not lengthen’.

Funnily enough, a line I agonised about πŸ˜‰ Should it be the other way round? Thank you

I liked quite a few of them actually, especially ‘Amen’. Lovely. However, I am not very good at giving constructive criticism, or even attempting to try and explain why it is I like something. I guess you could say I just like what I like. “) Poetry is a mystery to me.

All poetry is a mystery, that is what makes it wonderful and life-affirming. Emily said “Tell the truth, but tell it slant”. Like everything she ever wrote you could take that a thousand ways, but nevertheless it is one of the most important things ever said by a poet to other poets.

And thank you for the kind words πŸ™‚ x
