Frosty Road

We all like to think we are alone on that

divergent road amidst the dark trees with

night imminent and only our

fears, hopes, dreams, the

Moon and stars for company but

pull a little at that thread, that

tremulous fabric and we see instead a

superhighway of foot-beaten earth

miles wide with

comfort-stops aplenty and the sense that it

goes on forever.

My first thought is Robert Frost, particularly ‘The Road Not Taken’.
There is the intent to remind that we are not alone in our ‘aloneness’, that there is hope on the path of “foot-beaten earth”. But I also feel a little slap on the wrist after reading, another reminder of how vain we might be to believe that one’s ‘aloneness’ is so rare.

I think Diana said it very well. In the end we are alone…by end I mean death but even before that…there are corners of aloneness that nobody will be permitted to enter, but yes, we are together down that road with spots of comfort and succor. Alone, yet not alone. Not alone, yet alone. Well done. I like.
