U-Boat Pens, Bordeaux

Their sarcophagi sit still in

French ports, impenetrable and

unperturbed by all that death in the

cause, construction, catastrophe:

little boats bob in their immensity

afraid of the distant throb of

thunder over Biscay where the makers

plied their trade and died under

forewarned eyes so that

of all their number none is

buried in earth.

    Reminds me somewhat of Pearl Harbor and the ship(s) still buried beneath the water. A watery monument to war. Those U boats were the subject of many a movie, reruns I’ve seen. One a few years ago, one called “Das Boat” with a famous Czech actor, Jarnow something or other. Excellent film.
