A Mother’s Mistake?

She just wanted me to be a good man,

educated, polite, attentive,

empathetic, a gentle man to women—

perhaps to feed some need in her.

So I grew up to open doors, give up my

seat to startled women, say

sorry for her heel on my toe,

her stiletto in my heart,

smiled when I should have

snarled and vice versa because—

what my Mother couldn’t explain—

women often want gentlemen only for things

gentlemen don’t want.

Thank you for sharing this courageous poem It’s time we women help men to unburden themselves of of this phony pillar of strength image. We need to be pillars to each other, and we need to find a way to have more open, honest relations between the sexes that will bring fulfillment rather than suspicion and frustration. We need to correct and re-educate, Mom. Are u listening..please? Men must be men, not just gentlemen. And ladies must be women..sexual, strong and sweet. Read the lines and between the lines. Amen. Bravo, Steve!

and that my friend is how an evil woman can poison a “Good Man” against all women!

I agree 100% with what Jackie said.
